I've been scrambling to pick up a PA from some of my friends, one of my friends in Manchester owned one, so I made a perilous voyage to NH at 12am. By the time I arrived there, not only did I have the wrong address (I was given the wrong town) I was told that it was too late to pick up the PA.
Eventually we figured out the problem and we were good to go. Dammit Charlie was the first band, they didn't have any covers but it was cool to have them set the mood for the show. There were a lot of technical difficulties during their set but it was hard to really pick up on them. Most of it was just the mics and xlr cables being shitty.
Dead Last played next, I was stoked to hear them and see them. They opened with a cover of Vocal Test by Integrity, place went nuts, even for a basement. Followed by three Black Flag covers and three Misfits covers. Singer was decked out in skeleton clothes a devil lock and fake blood on his face that kept getting in his eyes, hahahah, as hilarious it was I felt kind of bad.
Hundred Acre Wood was next. Kids were everywhere losing their shit. I was the only one of us dressed in a (bear) costume. Originally I wanted to cover 8 American Nightmare songs, that turned into 7 due to time constraints and then 6 at the show due to technical difficulties. We opened with (It's Sometimes Like It Never Started) straight into Love American. Then Protest6 Song #00, (We Are), and Postmark My Compass. Both mic cables decided to stop working right before we played Farewell, so I said fuck it and we just ended with a mic-less version of Hearts. Everyone list their stuff and went apeshit. It was probably the most fun I had ever had at a show.
After our set a lot of people left and I felt bad, Debaser was set to play after us and do a Dead Kennedys set. We were having trouble with the XLRs, the soldering was awful, and I still need to have that fixed. I drove home, grabbed my own mic/xlr cable and rushed back to the house. We ended up just using my mic cable and the show was back on. Debaser did 5 or so DK's covers, a Suicide File cover (Fuck Fox News) and a cover of Glue by SSD.
This was one of the most fun nights I've had in a while. The perfect start to the best Halloween weekend ever, I hope. :D
